NATURALLY JOINT HEALTHY TREATS YOUR PET WILL LOVE

Joint health.

Don’t you feel like you’re seeing that everywhere?

I don’t know if it’s because I’m creakier and achier now than I was in my loosey goosey 20’s, or if health culture is simply bombarding me with it’s latest craze, but now when I hear the words “glucosamine” or “chondroitin” I perk up.

What exactly is glucosamine and chondroitin?

Quite simply, glucosamine is:

…a naturally occurring substance found in the fluid around our joints. It is naturally present in animal bones, bone marrow, shellfish and fungi.

…Glucosamine is vital for building cartilage. Cartilage is a flexible, tough connective tissue found in several areas of the body. This fine, rubbery tissue functions as padding, a cushion for bones and joints.

…As we age, glucosamine levels go down, which can lead to eventual joint deterioration.

And chondroitin is:

…a component of human connective tissues that are found in joint cartilage and bone.

…In supplements, the chondroitin sulfate usually is derived from bovine (cow) trachea or pork by-products.

…According to the Arthritis Foundation, chondroitin is believed to enhance shock-absorbing characteristics of collagen and block enzymes that break down cartilage. It may help cartilage retain water and when used together with glucosamine, chondroitin may reverse cartilage loss.

So whether it’s for you or for your dog, glucosamine and chondroitin can be very important elements in the aging process and joint health.

One of the most common questions we have in the store is how to start a younger or middle aged dog on a joint health supplement, without having to administer pills and/or powders.

In this area dogs and cats have it made.

Glucosamine and/or chondroitin are found in many of the chew treats that your pet may already enjoy.

So if you are interested in maintaining your pet’s joint health, or would like to add a little more glucosamine or chondroitin into their existing regimen, the following treats may be a great way to keep your pet healthy, happy, and begging for more!

(NOTE: The following treats are not prescribed specifically for joint health. The glucosamine and/or chondroitin occurring in them does not adhere to a specific dosage, so please do not use the following chews and treats as a replacement for a vet prescribed dosing or a recommended joint care supplement. These treats can aid in the maintenance of your pet’s joints in conjunction with proper feeding, supplementing, and veterinary care.)

Containing knuckles, cartilage, and bone, duck feet are a great natural source of glucosamine and chondroitin.

Suitable for both cats and dogs, these little feet though admittedly a little creepy looking, are a favorite in the store.

The little bones in the the Bravo Dry Roasted Duck Feet we carry are safe for dogs and cats to chomp on, and you can even soak them in warm water for a chewier treat for your pet!

As with any treat or chew, make sure you keep an eye on your pet while he snacks on a duck foot to make sure it isn’t a choking hazard.

My kitty loves duck feet and often happily gnaws on one as an “appetizer” to her dinner!

The Bravo Dried Beef Trachea are one of those chews that many people pick up in the store and ask, “What IS this???”

“That”, I’d like to say, “is a fantastic naturally occurring source of glucosamine and chondroitin, that also helps clean their teeth as they chew!”

Otherwise known as a beef trachea.

Not only will these trachea keep your dog occupied (sorry not for cats), but being made up entirely of connective tissue and cartilage, these chews are very high in glucosamine and chondroitin.

PLUS! Right now our Bravo Dried Beef Trachea are 30% off! Yum!

For a bit of a different texture, beef tendons are a great choice for a joint healthy treat.

Chewy and satisfying, our Angus Moo Achilles Tendons are chock full of naturally occurring, joint healthy collagen. Where as glucosamine lubricates joints, collagen is the important protein in the structure and comfort of joints.

So stop by and pick up a healthy treat for your dog or cat! They will love the chewy, tasty treat you bring home, and they won’t even know it’s good for them!

Snacking!
